“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” — Romans 6:14 (NKJV)
One of the greatest battles for anyone who has been freed from addiction is the nagging fear of relapse. The enemy whispers, “You’ll fall again, you can’t really stay free, you’ll never make it.” But God’s Word tells us otherwise.
Jesus said in John 8:36 (NKJV): “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” When Christ sets us free, that freedom is not partial or temporary—it is complete. The chains of addiction are not merely loosened; they are broken. We no longer need to live under the shadow of relapse because the power of sin has been destroyed by the cross.
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV): “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” The old life—the one enslaved to sin and destruction—has been buried. In Christ, you are not defined by your past but by the new life He has given you.
Fear of relapse is really fear that God will not be strong enough to keep us. But the truth is, He is more than able. Jude 24 (NKJV) declares: “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” You are not walking this path alone. God Himself is your keeper.
The Spirit within you is greater than the temptation around you. 1 John 4:4 (NKJV): “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” When fear of relapse tries to take root, speak the promises of God out loud and remind yourself that His grace is sufficient to keep you strong.
Relapse is not your destiny—victory is. In Christ, you can live free without looking over your shoulder. Walk boldly in His promises, and let His peace guard your heart from fear.

- What does it mean to me that I am a new creation in Christ?
- When fear of relapse whispers in my mind, what verse will I stand on to silence it?

Abba Father,
Thank You for setting me free through the blood of Jesus. I reject the lies of the enemy that try to make me fear relapse. I believe Your Word that says sin will not have dominion over me.
