Evil Is Real. But God Is Greater.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians 6:12

We don’t have to look far to see that evil is everywhere — in our newsfeeds, our neighborhoods, and sometimes even in our own homes. But as terrifying as that reality can be, we must remember: evil is not the final authority. God is.

Evil is not an abstract concept — it is real, active, and working to destroy everything that belongs to God. Satan is called “the god of this age” (2 Corinthians 4:4), and he blinds the minds of unbelievers, seeking to keep them from the truth. Remember, he also works even harder at deceiving believers.

But here’s the good news: evil may be loud, but it is not sovereign. Jesus declared in John 16:33 (NKJV):
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

That means we are not helpless victims. God has given us spiritual weapons and authority through Christ to stand firm.

James 4:7 (NKJV) reminds us:
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Our job is not to fear evil but to be spiritually awake, dressed in the full armor of God, and walking in obedience so that darkness has no foothold.

1 Peter 5:8-9 (NKJV):
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

Evil is widespread — but so is the power of God’s Kingdom and His power is the final authority. The light shines brightest in the dark. You were born for such a time as this — to stand, to pray, and to reflect Christ’s light in a world that desperately needs Him.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Where do I see evil trying to gain ground in my personal life, my community, or my nation?

How can I stay spiritually alert without living in constant fear, especially during this time when I am recovering from addiction?

What steps do I need to take to strengthen my prayer life and spiritual defenses?

How do I submit every area of my life to God so the enemy has no foothold?

What lies has the enemy been whispering to me, and what does God’s Word say in response?

In what ways can I actively push back against darkness by serving, loving, speaking truth, and having a recovery coach walking alongside me?

Prayer

Abba Father,
I see the evil around me, and at times it feels overwhelming. Thank You that I do not have to face it in my own strength. Help me to put on Your full armor daily, to stay alert, to stay always on the straight and narrow, and to resist the schemes of the enemy. Keep my heart from fear and fill me with courage, knowing that Jesus has already overcome the world. Use me as a light-bearer to bring hope and truth wherever You send me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
