Dealing with Mockers: Standing Firm When the World Scoffs at God

Have you ever been mocked for your faith? Maybe family, friends, or even strangers have sneered at your devotion to Christ. The Bible tells us that mockers will always exist until the end. They laugh now, but the day will come—at their last breath—when they will see the truth of God’s Word. Tragically, by then it will be too late.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
~ Galatians 6:7

Mockery is not new. From the prophets of old to Jesus Himself, God’s people have always faced ridicule. When Jesus hung on the cross, people mocked Him saying, “If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross” (Matthew 27:40 NKJV). Yet, He endured.

Today, mockers may laugh at your commitment to purity, your refusal to bow to worldly ways, or your belief in Christ’s return. Scripture warns us:

  • 2 Peter 3:3–4 “Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming?’”

Mockers doubt God because they love sin. They blind themselves to truth so they can live as they please. But Scripture assures us that their arrogance is short-lived.

  • Proverbs 19:29 – “Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of fools.”

When mockers take their last breath, they will stand before the throne of God. Every word, every sneer, every insult will be silenced in the presence of the King of kings for eternal judgement. At that moment, they will know that Jesus is real, the Bible was true, and eternity is unshakable. There will be no argument with Jesus.

This is not said with hatred, but with deep grief. Our response as believers must not be bitterness but steadfastness and compassion. We hold fast to Christ, knowing that their mockery cannot change truth.

  • Matthew 5:11–12 – “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven…”

God is not mocked. He has the final word. Mockers may laugh now, but believers will rejoice forever.

  4. Do I focus more on defending myself or on glorifying God in the face of ridicule?
  5. How can I strengthen my faith so I am not shaken by mockery?
  6. Am I praying for the salvation of those who mock me, knowing their time is short?
  7. What eternal perspective can I hold onto when mockers try to shame or silence me?

Bible Verses for Meditation

  • Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”
  • Jude 1:18 “How they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.”
  • Proverbs 14:9 “Fools mock at sin, But among the upright there is favor.”
  • Romans 14:11 “For it is written: ‘As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.’”
  • Philippians 2:10–11 – “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Prayer

Abba Father,
Thank You for the strength to endure when others mock my faith. Help me to stand firm in Your truth without bitterness, knowing You are not mocked and You will have the final word. Give me compassion for those who scoff, for they are blinded by sin, and their time to repent grows short. Keep my eyes on Jesus and my heart filled with Your Spirit so that I may shine Your light even in the face of ridicule. May I never be shaken, for my hope is in You alone.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
