WHEN GOD’S WAY SEEMS TO MAKE NO SENSE

WHEN YOUR SOLUTION CONFLICTS WITH GOD’S

You see the problem clearly. You understand what should fix it. And yet God’s direction feels opposite, slower, quieter, or even unreasonable. This tension is not confusion—it is the collision between human logic and divine wisdom.

Recovery retrains your thinking, but it does not automatically replace it with God’s. Many people stumble when God’s instruction contradicts their understanding of urgency, fairness, or safety. This study teaches you how to trust God when obedience feels illogical and surrender feels risky.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5–6

TRUSTING GOD OVER YOUR LOGIC

Understanding is not the same as wisdom. You may accurately identify the pain, the risk, or the injustice—and still choose a solution that leads you away from God’s best. Addiction taught you to rely on instinct and urgency. God teaches you to rely on Him.

God’s solutions often offend human reasoning because they require trust instead of control. Waiting instead of acting. Forgiving instead of defending. Surrendering instead of fixing.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 55:8

When God’s way feels wrong to you, it is often because it threatens self-reliance. God is not dismissing your intelligence—He is exposing its limits.

Scripture repeatedly shows God asking His people to do what seems ineffective or backward.

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” Says the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 4:6

Recovery becomes unstable when you trust your interpretation more than God’s instruction. True freedom is built when you obey even while uncomfortable.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”
Proverbs 14:12

This does not mean your thoughts are evil—it means they are incomplete. God sees outcomes you cannot. When you release your solution and accept His, you are not losing control—you are placing it in hands that see the whole picture.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF FOR SELF-EXAMINATION

  1. What outcome am I trying to force right now instead of trusting God to produce?

  2. Where might fear be influencing what I believe is the “right” solution?

  3. What part of God’s instruction feels threatening to me, and why?

  4. How have my past solutions failed to bring lasting peace or freedom?

  5. What would obedience look like if I stopped requiring understanding first?

  6. What am I afraid will happen if I follow God’s way instead of mine?

  7. How can I practice surrender without needing immediate reassurance?

BIBLE VERSES FOR MEDITATION

“Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.”
Psalm 37:5

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.”
Psalm 37:23

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
1 Corinthians 3:19

“For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?”
1 Corinthians 2:16

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5

🙏PRAYER

Abba Father,
I admit that I often trust what makes sense to me more than what You are asking of me. Teach me to release my solutions and submit to Yours, even when I do not understand. Help me obey without needing proof, and trust that Your way leads to life. I place my decisions in Your hands and choose Your wisdom over my own. In Jesus Almighty name, amen.
