YOU WILL SEE THE WICKED REPAID

You are not crazy for noticing the injustice. You are not weak for wanting God to step in. When you walk in obedience and still watch evil seem to prosper, your heart can grow weary—but God has not missed a single thing. He promises that you will see the outcome.

In recovery, you are learning to live clean while others may still lie, manipulate, exploit, or even harm—and sometimes it looks like they get away with it. That can stir anger, resentment, revenge fantasies, or discouragement. If you don’t anchor your heart in God’s justice, bitterness can quietly pull you back toward old behaviors. This study grounds you in truth: God handles judgment so you don’t have to.

“Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.”

Psalm 91:8

You are not called to chase justice—you are called to trust God with it. Psalm 91 is written to the one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, not the one who retaliates, schemes, or plots revenge. When you stay under God’s covering, He allows you to witness His righteousness unfold in His time.

God makes it clear that vengeance belongs to Him, not you.

“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Romans 12:19

When you take justice into your own hands, you step out of alignment. But when you release it to God, you remain protected. Recovery requires restraint, humility, and faith—especially when emotions are inflamed by wrongdoing.

You may not always see judgment immediately, but God’s Word assures you it will come.

“For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.”

Psalm 37:9

Waiting does not mean weakness. Waiting is strength under control. God allows you to see the fruit of wickedness—not to gloat, but to reaffirm that righteousness is never wasted.

Sometimes the “reward” of the wicked is exposure. Sometimes it is collapse. Sometimes it is the internal destruction of a hardened heart. Either way, God is just, thorough, and unstoppable.

“When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases;
But the righteous will see their fall.”

Proverbs 29:16

Your job is to stay clean, surrendered, and obedient. God handles the rest.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF FOR SELF EXAMINATION

  1. Where have you been tempted to take justice into your own hands instead of trusting God?

  2. What emotions rise in you when you see the wicked prosper, and what do those emotions reveal?

  3. How has bitterness threatened your recovery in moments of unfairness?

  4. What would full trust in God’s justice look like in your current situation?

  5. In what ways has God already protected you while others self-destructed?

  6. How can staying obedient guard your heart from resentment?

  7. What does God want to teach you while you wait for His timing?

BIBLE VERSES FOR MEDITATION

“Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.”

Psalm 37:1–2

“The Lord knows the days of the upright,
And their inheritance shall be forever.”

Psalm 37:18

“For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;
They are preserved forever.”

Psalm 37:28

“Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them,
For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”

Isaiah 3:10

PRAYER

Abba Father,
I release every desire for revenge into Your hands. I choose to trust Your justice even when I don’t understand the timing. Guard my heart from bitterness and keep me hidden in Your presence. Strengthen me to stay obedient, clean, and surrendered while You handle what I cannot. I believe Your Word, and I rest in Your righteousness, in Jesus name.
