You have been betrayed. Disappointed. Let down. Promises were made and broken. People failed you when you needed them most—and now you hesitate to trust anyone at all.
That hesitation didn’t come from nowhere. But if you don’t answer the question of who you can trust, recovery becomes unstable. Healing cannot grow where trust has no anchor.
Addiction often begins or deepens where trust has been shattered—trust in people, trust in authority, trust in safety, even trust in yourself. When trust is misplaced, pain follows. When trust is withdrawn entirely, isolation takes over.
You must learn where trust belongs. Not everyone deserves access to your heart, your story, or your future. Recovery requires discernment, not cynicism—and absolute trust placed in the only One who has never failed.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5
THE RIGHT OBJECT OF TRUST
People are limited. Even well-meaning people are flawed, emotional, distracted, and imperfect. Jesus never told you to place ultimate trust in human beings.
“It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man.”
Psalm 118:8
Trusting people to do what only God can do will always lead to disappointment. Only God is constant. Only God is faithful. Only God sees the full picture.
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust.”
Psalm 18:2
When you trust God, you are not trusting feelings, outcomes, or circumstances—you are trusting His character. He does not lie. He does not abandon. He does not change His mind about you.
“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.”
Numbers 23:19
Recovery becomes stable when God is your foundation and people are placed in proper order—not as saviors, but as fellow travelers. Trust God fully. Trust people wisely. Trust yourself only as you remain surrendered to Him.

PRAYER
Abba Father,
I admit that my trust has been shaken by disappointment and pain. Teach me to place my full trust in You alone. Heal the places where betrayal hardened my heart. Give me wisdom to trust people rightly and courage to trust You completely. I surrender my fear, my control, and my guardedness to You. You are faithful, and I choose to rest in that truth, in Jesus name.
