HOW SERIOUSLY ARE YOU TAKING GOD, THE BIBLE, & YOUR RECOVERY?

You say you love God.
You say you believe the Bible.
You say you want freedom.

But how seriously are you actually taking Him?

In recovery, as in life, half-hearted Christianity will destroy you. Casual devotion will not keep you sober. Occasional prayer will not break strongholds. You cannot treat God like a motivational quote and expect Him to deliver you from chains that almost killed you.

Recovery and Salvation is life and death. And the way you treat God reveals how serious you are about being saved and staying free.

If you handle Him casually, you will handle sin casually.

And sin is not casual about destroying you and your eternity.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

James 1:22 NKJV

WHAT YOUR SERIOUSNESS REVEALS

You can measure your seriousness by your actions.

Do you open your Bible several times a day — or only when you’re in crisis?

Do you obey immediately — or debate with God?

Do you remove triggers — or test your strength?

The Word of God is not optional reading in recovery. It is your oxygen.  You should want to read His Word as much as You want to breathe.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4 NKJV

Every word. Not your favorite verses. Not just the comforting ones.

Every word.

When you treat Scripture casually, you slowly begin trusting your emotions again. And your emotions once led you into the sin of addiction.

God’s Word leads you into freedom.

ARE YOU PLAYING WITH HOLINESS?

Recovery requires radical obedience.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7 NKJV

Submission comes first.

You cannot resist the devil while resisting God.

If you are still flirting with old music, old relationships, old environments, old attitudes — you are not taking recovery seriously.

You are testing how close you can get to the fire without burning.

But addiction does not negotiate.

It waits.

YOUR REVERENCE SHOWS IN PRIVATE

God sees what no one else sees.

He sees whether you pray when no one is watching.
He sees whether you worship when you don’t feel like it.
He sees whether you repent quickly — or excuse slowly.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:7 NKJV

The fear of the Lord is not panic. It is deep reverence that you need… you want.

It is knowing He is holy — and you need Him desperately.

When you take God seriously, you take sin seriously.
When you take sin seriously, you guard your freedom.

7 QUESTIONS TO EXAMINE YOUR SERIOUSNESS

  1. In what ways have I minimized God’s commands to make room for comfort?

  2. Where am I treating Scripture as information instead of instruction?

  3. What habits show whether I truly fear God or just admire Him?

  4. Where am I delaying obedience because it feels inconvenient?

  5. What “small” compromises am I justifying right now?

  6. How does my private life compare to my public faith?

  7. If my recovery reflected my level of surrender, what would it look like?

Answer honestly.

Your freedom depends on it.

BIBLE VERSES FOR MEDITATION

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
John 14:15 NKJV

“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness.”
2 Peter 3:11 NKJV

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 NKJV

“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
Philippians 2:12 NKJV

Sit with these. Let them confront you. Let them correct you.

PRAYER

Abba Father,

I do not want to take You lightly. I do not want to treat Your Word as optional or my recovery as casual. Forgive me where I have been half-hearted. Forgive me where I have delayed obedience. Forgive me where I have entertained compromise.

Create in me a deep reverence for You. Teach me to fear You rightly. Help me love You enough to obey You quickly. Strengthen me to remove every compromise, every trigger, every doorway that leads back to bondage.

I want to recover once and be free for life — through total surrender to Jesus Christ.

Make me serious about what almost destroyed me. Make me serious about the freedom You died to give me.

I choose full surrender today.

In Jesus name.
