In recovery, the real battle is not just against substances.
It is against rebellion.
Addiction was fueled by self-will — doing life your way instead of God’s way. If rebellion is not uprooted, it does not disappear. It simply changes form.
Rebellion opens doors.
When you resist full surrender, you create space for counterfeit spirituality to enter. Witchcraft is often not the starting point — it is the fruit of a heart that still wants control.
You may put down the substance… but pick up a crystal.
You may leave the bar… but begin manifesting outcomes on vision boards or with words.
You may renounce drugs… but hang a dream catcher “just in case.”
That is how rebellion opens the door to witchcraft and locks you out of God’s will.
If you are going to recover once and be free for life, you cannot afford hidden insidious compromise.
In 1 Samuel 15:23, the prophet Samuel confronts Saul:
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
He also has rejected you from being king.”
God does not compare rebellion to witchcraft casually.
Rebellion rejects His authority.
Witchcraft seeks spiritual power without His authority.
Both refuse surrender.
WHAT WITCHCRAFT REALLY IS
Witchcraft is not just costumes or Halloween aesthetics.
It is seeking:

Protection apart from God

Knowledge apart from God

Power apart from God
-
Control apart from God
God warned clearly in Deuteronomy 18:10–12:
“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord…”
These practices are not neutral.
They are direct violations of God’s command.
MODERN FORMS OF REBELLION THAT LOOK HARMLESS
CRYSTALS
Claimed to hold healing “energy.”
Trust is placed in creation instead of the Creator.
OUIJA BOARDS
Attempts to communicate with spirits.
Leviticus 19:31 warns:
“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.”
PENDULUMS & DIVINATION TOOLS
Seeking answers from spiritual forces other than the Holy Spirit.
ASTROLOGY & HOROSCOPES
Looking to stars for guidance rather than God’s Word.
MANIFESTING / LAW OF ATTRACTION
Attempting to bend outcomes through spoken intention and personal will.
SAGE SMUDGING
Burning herbs, like sage, to “cleanse negative energy.”
RITUALISTIC USE OF OILS
Oil in Scripture symbolizes obedience and consecration.
Oil treated as a mystical power object is not biblical.
DREAM CATCHERS
Dream catchers originate from Native American spiritual traditions and were believed to filter dreams or trap negative spirits.
They are often dismissed as decoration.
But if you trust an object for spiritual protection, you have shifted your trust away from God.
Psalms 4:8 says:
“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
The Bible says, You alone, O Lord.
Not woven string.
Not feathers.
Not symbols.
REBELLION IS THE REAL ISSUE
Rebellion says:
“I will surrender… but not completely.”
It keeps a backup plan.
It says:

“It’s just décor.”
-
“It’s cultural.”
-
“It’s harmless.”
-
“It just makes me feel better.”
Partial surrender is still rebellion.
James 4:7 gives the order:
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Submission comes first.
If you do not submit, you will substitute.
And substitution opens doors.

Does my life reflect total trust in Jesus, or hidden compromise?
Freedom requires honesty.

PRAYER
Abba Father,
I confess that rebellion has lived in places I did not recognize. I have tried to control outcomes and protect myself in ways that do not honor You. I renounce every form of witchcraft, divination, and hidden compromise in my life. Expose every door I have opened through self-will. I choose full surrender. I choose obedience. I trust You alone for protection, guidance, and peace. Cleanse my heart and my home. I submit fully to You. In Jesus holy name, amen.
