You were not rescued just to live quietly.
You were rescued to reach.
In early recovery, your focus had to be survival. Boundaries. Healing. Renewing your mind. Learning obedience. That season matters and is ongoing.
But if recovery becomes only about you, it will eventually become small.
Jesus did not save you so you could build a safe Christian bubble around you.
He saved you so you could help pull others out of the water.
The enemy would love for you to stay silent.
Jesus calls you to cast.
But here is the question most believers never ask:
Where are you supposed to fish?
“Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
Matthew 4:19 nkjv

When Jesus spoke those words, He was speaking to fishermen who understood something critical:
Fish are not caught in places where there are no fish.
You must go where the fish are.
Jesus modeled this perfectly.
He went to:
-
Tax collectors
-
The poor
-
The sick
-
The possessed
-
The rejected
-
The marketplaces
-
The streets
He did not isolate Himself inside religious comfort.
Luke 19:10 (NKJV)
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Seek means move.
In recovery, this requires wisdom and discernment. You do not return to bars to evangelize. You do not step back into triggering environments under the banner of “ministry.”
You fish where your sobriety remains protected.
So where do you go?
You fish in:
-
Recovery meetings
-
Workplaces
- Volunteer opportunities
-
Family gatherings
-
Online spaces
-
Grocery stores
-
Gyms
-
Neighborhood conversations
-
Coffee shops
-
Church small groups
Your mission field – your ‘fish’ – is wherever God has already placed you.
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Notice the order — start where you are.
Jerusalem was home.
You do not have to cross oceans to fish for souls.
Start in your Jerusalem.
The key is this:
Be present.
Be available.
Be led by His Holy Spirit.
You are not called to reckless fishing.
You are called to Spirit-led fishing.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NKJV)
“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
An ambassador does not hide in safety.
An ambassador represents.
In recovery, your boundaries stay strong — but your heart stays open.

PRAYER
Abba Father,
Thank You for saving me and restoring my life. Show me where, how, and why to fish. Open my eyes to the people around me who are ready to hear about Jesus. Give me discernment so I do not step into unsafe waters, but give me courage so I do not hide in comfort.
Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Lead my conversations. Prepare hearts before I speak. Make me a faithful ambassador. Let my life shine in the places You have already assigned to me.
Use me to draw souls to Jesus.
In Jesus holy name, amen.
