NOT PERFECT – BUT WE WALK WITH THE LORD

You used to believe perfection was the goal.

If you couldn’t do it flawlessly, you didn’t want to do it at all.
If you failed once, you called yourself a failure.
If you stumbled, you thought God must be disappointed.

Addiction feeds perfectionism.

It whispers:

  • “You’ll never change.”

  • “Look at you — still struggling.”

  • “Real Christians don’t mess up like this.”

But walking with God was never about perfection.

It was always about direction.

In recovery, this truth is life-saving.

Because if you think God only walks with perfect people, you will run from Him every time you fall.

And that is exactly what the enemy wants.

“Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Genesis 5:24 NKJV

Notice what it says.

It does not say Enoch was flawless.
It does not list his achievements.
It does not praise his perfection.

It says he walked with God.

That is the testimony Heaven recorded.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WALK WITH GOD?

1. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS RELATIONSHIP — NOT RELIGION

Walking is daily.

It is not a Sunday performance.
It is not image management.
It is not pretending.

“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
Amos 3:3 NKJV

Walking with God means you agree with Him:

  • About your sin.

  • About your need.

  • About your dependence on Jesus.

Recovery becomes powerful when it becomes relational.

2. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS YOU GET BACK UP

Perfection never falls.
But walkers stumble and keep moving.

“For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.”
Proverbs 24:16 NKJV

The righteous are not those who never fall.

They are the ones who rise again.

In recovery, that is everything.

Let it be said of you:

  • You repented quickly.

  • You returned quickly.

  • You did not stay down.

3. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS PROGRESS — NOT POLISH

You are being transformed.

Slowly.
Deeply.
Honestly.

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV

From glory to glory.

That is movement.

That is growth.

That is recovery.

4. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS HUMILITY

You stop pretending you have it together.

You admit when you don’t.

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6 NKJV

Perfectionism is pride disguised as holiness.

Walking with God is humility in action.

You say:
“Lord, I need You today.”

And you mean it.

5. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS OBEDIENCE IN SMALL THINGS

Big dramatic victories are not the daily norm.

Small obedience is.

“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.”
Luke 16:10 NKJV

You:

  • Pray when you don’t feel like it.

  • Close the door to temptation.

  • Tell the truth.

  • Choose integrity.

  • Stay accountable.

That is walking.

6. WALKING WITH GOD MEANS YOU STAY CLOSE

Addiction isolates.

God restores closeness.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8 NKJV

You stay near:

  • In Scripture.

  • In prayer.

  • In repentance.

  • In surrender.

Not perfect.

Present.

7 QUESTIONS FOR SELF-EXAMINATION

  1. Where have I confused perfection with spiritual maturity?

  2. How do I respond internally when I make a mistake?

  3. In what area have I been hiding from God instead of walking with Him?

  4. What does daily agreement with God look like in my recovery?

  5. Where is He asking me for small obedience right now?

  6. How quickly do I return to Him after I stumble?

  7. If someone observed my life, would they say I am walking with God?

Sit with this.

Let Heaven define your testimony.

PRAYER

Abba Father,

I release the need to be perfect. I do not want performance — I want relationship. Teach me to walk with You daily, honestly, and humbly.

When I fall, help me rise quickly. When I drift, draw me back. When pride creeps in, humble my heart. I do not want to impress people — I want to stay close to You.

Let it be said of my life that I walked with God. Not flawlessly. Not flawlessly polished. But faithfully surrendered.

Order my steps. Shape my heart. Keep me near.

In Jesus holy name, amen.
