In recovery, your emotions can feel like a rollercoaster.
One day you are strong.
One day you are exhausted.
One day you feel victorious.
The next day you feel ashamed.
You may feel happy, sad, broken, angry, ashamed, afraid, tempted, or overwhelmed.
And the enemy whispers:
“Don’t go to God like this.”
“Clean yourself up first.”
“God is tired of you.”
But that is not the voice of your Father.
You must understand this in recovery and beyond:
There is no emotional state that disqualifies you from coming to Him.
Not relapse.
Not anger.
Not depression.
Not confusion.
Not crisis.
You are always welcome.
He is always present.
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 NKJV
Notice it says time of need — not time of perfection.
You do not come because you are strong.
You come because you need Him.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU IN EVERY SEASON
1. WHEN YOU ARE HAPPY
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights…”
James 1:17 NKJV
Your joy should bring you closer to God, not away from Him.
Celebrate with Him. Thank Him. Include Him.
2. WHEN YOU ARE SAD OR BROKEN
“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 34:18 NKJV
He does not withdraw when you break.
He draws near.
Recovery often uncovers deep wounds.
You do not have to hide those tears from Him.
3. WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY
“Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.”
Psalm 4:4 NKJV
You can bring anger to God.
It becomes sin when you handle it without Him.
Tell Him exactly how you feel. He already knows.
4. WHEN YOU HAVE SINNED
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 NKJV
Confession is not exile.
It is an invitation back into closeness.
Recovery is not about never stumbling.
It is about running back quickly.
5. WHEN YOU ARE IN CRISIS
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1 NKJV
Very present.
Not distant.
Not distracted.
Not disappointed.
Very present.
6. WHEN YOU FEEL NUMB OR FAR
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8 NKJV
Sometimes you do not feel anything.
That does not mean He left.
Draw near anyway.
WHAT JESUS MADE POSSIBLE
Because of Jesus, you do not approach God as a stranger.
You approach as a child.
“For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.”
Ephesians 2:18 NKJV
Access.
That means:
-
You do not need a perfect record.
-
You do not need a perfect mood.
-
You do not need a perfect week.
-
You do not need to “feel spiritual.”
You need only to say, I’m here Jesus.

PRAYER
Abba Father,
I come to You exactly as I am. Whether I am joyful, grieving, angry, ashamed, or afraid, I thank You that I am never disqualified from Your presence. Forgive me for the times I have pulled away instead of running to You. Teach me to come boldly, quickly, and honestly. In every emotion, in every crisis, in every victory, remind me that I am Your child and You are very present. Anchor my recovery in Your nearness. I trust that I am always welcome.
In Jesus holy name, amen.
