YOU’RE STILL HERE. THAT’S A VICTORY!

When you are walking out of addiction, you often measure progress the wrong way.

You look at what is not fixed.
You look at what still hurts.
You look at what you lost.

But today I need you to see something differently:

You are still here.

You survived the overdose.
You survived the relapse.
You survived the depression.
You survived the shame.
You survived the nights you thought you would not make it.

The enemy tried to end your story — but he did not win.

In recovery, you must learn to recognize survival as victory. Because if you cannot see the victories, you will miss what God is already doing in your life.

You are still here — and that means God is not finished.

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22–23 NKJV

You were not consumed.

Read that again.

Not destroyed.
Not finished.
Not erased.
Not abandoned.

Not consumed.

That is mercy.

WHAT YOUR SURVIVAL REALLY MEANS

Addiction whispers:
“You’re a failure.”

But Scripture says:

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31 NKJV

The fact that you are breathing today is evidence of God’s mercy over your life.

You may not be where you want to be.
But you are not where you used to be.
And you are not where you could have been.

There were moments you should have died.
Moments you should have lost your mind.
Moments you should have completely walked away from God.

Yet here you are.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1 NKJV

Recovery is not just about quitting a substance.

It is about recognizing that God preserved you for a purpose.

Your survival is not random.
It is intentional.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6 NKJV

If you are still here, then the work is still in progress.

And unfinished work means unfinished purpose.

YOU MUST STOP CALLING YOURSELF A FAILURE

The enemy wants you discouraged because discouragement weakens resolve.

But Scripture says:

“For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.”
Proverbs 24:16 NKJV

Notice something powerful:

The righteous man falls.

But he rises again.

The victory is not that you never fell.
The victory is that you got back up.
The victory is that you are still standing.
The victory is that you are still seeking God.

You are not defeated because you struggled.

You are victorious because you are still fighting.

7 QUESTIONS FOR SELF-EXAMINATION

In what ways has God preserved my life that I have minimized or ignored?
What did I survive that could have completely destroyed me?
How has God shown mercy to me even in my worst moments?
Where am I measuring failure instead of recognizing progress?
What lies have I believed about myself that contradict Scripture?
How would my mindset shift if I truly believed God spared me for a purpose?
What is one way I can thank God today for simply keeping me alive?

PRAYER

Abba Father,

Thank You that I am still here. Thank You that I was not consumed. Thank You for mercy I did not deserve and compassion that did not fail me.

Forgive me for calling myself a failure when You call me preserved. Forgive me for minimizing the miracle of survival. Open my eyes to see that my life is evidence of Your faithfulness.

Strengthen me to rise again when I fall. Help me to walk forward with confidence, knowing that if I am still breathing, You are still working. Use my survival for Your glory. Let my life declare Your goodness.

I surrender my discouragement, my shame, and my fear to You. I receive Your mercy. I receive Your purpose. I receive Your victory.
