You gave Jesus your addiction. But have you given Him your decisions? Recovery is not just about stopping sin. It is about surrendering authorship.
You once wrote chapters driven by impulse, pain, pride, and fear. And it led to bondage. Now you are free — but ongoing freedom still requires choices.
Here is the truth many overlook:
- Jesus does not rip the pen out of your hand.
- He guides it.
- You must choose to let Him.
- That is where many struggle. You want guidance — without surrender. You want peace — without obedience.
- But the Author will not override your will.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)
He shall direct your paths ~ He directs ~ You walk. He guides ~ You choose. God does not force obedience ~ He invites it.
JESUS IS THE AUTHOR — BUT YOU HOLD THE PEN
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
— Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
He is the Author and Finisher. But notice something powerful: An author can write a masterpiece. Yet if you refuse to follow the script, you create chaos in the story.
Jesus guides the direction. The Holy Spirit convicts, corrects, and illuminates.
But you decide:
-
Will I obey?
-
Will I surrender?
-
Will I trust?
-
Will I compromise?
Recovery is where your will learn to align with His will. Not because He forces it — but because you choose it.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU REFUSE HIS GUIDANCE?
- You begin rewriting boundaries.
- You soften convictions.
- You justify “small” compromises.
- You rush chapters that require patience.
And slowly, the joy fades. Not because God left ~ but because you took back control.
The moment you insist on your own understanding, you grip the pen again.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET HIM GUIDE?
Peace replaces pressure. Clarity replaces confusion. Strength replaces striving.
He does not erase your personality. He does not remove your responsibility.
He aligns your choices with eternal purpose. He guides the pen — but your hand must cooperate. That is maturity in recovery and going forward in Your walk with jesus.

PRAYER
Abba Father,
I confess that I often want You to guide my life without surrendering my choices. Forgive me for gripping the pen when You are clearly directing me. Thank You for not forcing me but patiently guiding me through Your Holy Spirit. Teach me to cooperate with Your leading. Help me to obey quickly and trust deeply. I surrender my decisions, my future, and my will to You. Guide the pen of my life as I choose to follow You, in Jesus holy name.
