THE FEAR OF WORLD EVENTS AND YOUR BIBLICAL RECOVERY

Wars. Rumors of wars. Nations in conflict. Earthquakes. Famines. Lawlessness. Fear gripping entire populations. For the believer, these things should not come as a shocking sign that God has lost control. Jesus told us ahead of time that they would happen. That changes how we look at frightening world events.

We are not watching history spin randomly out of control. We are watching a world moving exactly where Scripture said it would move. And for someone walking in Biblical recovery, that truth is powerful: you do not need to run back to an old escape because prophecy is unfolding. You need to run closer to the One who already told you it would.

WHY THIS MATTERS IN RECOVERY

Fear is one of the emotions that can tempt someone back toward old bondage. When the headlines become frightening, thoughts can begin racing:

  • What is going to happen?
  • Are we headed toward war?
  • What about my family?
  • What if everything changes?

But Biblical recovery teaches us something very different from the world’s response to fear.

  • We do not numb it.
  • We do not escape it.
  • We do not allow it to drive us back toward drugs, alcohol, compulsive behaviors, or any other former refuge.

Instead, we remember: ⭐⭐⭐Jesus already told us these things were coming.

If He accurately told us what would happen, then we can also trust everything He told us about how we should live while it happens.

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

~ Matthew 24:6 NKJV

There are several powerful truths packed into that one statement. Jesus said: You will hear about these things. He did not say if. He said will. Then He gave His followers a command: “See that you are not troubled.” Why? Because: “All these things must come to pass.”

Jesus was telling His disciples—and us—that frightening world events would become part of the prophetic landscape. They do not prove that Yahweh has lost control. They prove that Yahweh knew beforehand.

PROPHECY SHOULD BUILD FAITH, NOT DESTROY IT

Think about this carefully. If Jesus had told us that everything would continually become peaceful, stable, prosperous, and secure—and instead we saw increasing turmoil—we might have reason to wonder. But He told us the opposite.

  • He warned about wars.
  • He warned about deception.
  • He warned about persecution.
  • He warned about lawlessness.
  • He warned about spiritual deception.
  • He warned about frightening events.

So when we see these things developing, our response should not be: “Where is God?” Our response should be: “Jesus told us.” Prophecy is evidence that history is not surprising Him.

👉He sees the beginning. He sees the ending. And He sees everything in between.

JESUS SAID THESE THINGS WOULD HAPPEN BEFORE THEY HAPPENED

Jesus continued: “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.”~ Matthew 24:7 NKJV

Then He said something extremely important: “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” ~ Matthew 24:8 NKJV

Jesus was preparing His followers. He did not want them spiritually blindsided when difficult events began occurring. He essentially told them. When you see these things, remember that I already told you. That same truth applies today. The Christian should be one of the least surprised people on earth when Biblical prophecy begins looking increasingly familiar.

  • We were warned.
  • We were prepared.
  • We were told to watch.
  • And we were told not to fear.

PROPHECY IS NOT GIVEN SO YOU WILL PANIC

There is an enormous difference between watching prophecy and being terrified by prophecy. Some believers consume prophecy news until they are anxious every day. That misses the purpose. Jesus did not give prophecy so His people would spend their lives trembling over tomorrow. He gave prophecy partly so that when events occurred, His followers would remember: He knew. Jesus said: “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.” ~ John 14:29 NKJV

There it is. That you may believe. Prophecy should strengthen your confidence in Jesus. You are watching events He knew about before you were born. Why would that make you trust Him less? It should make you trust Him more.

WORLD EVENTS SHOULD MAKE YOU LOOK UP, NOT GO BACK

For someone recovering from addiction, fear can whisper: Maybe I need something to calm me down. No. You already know where that road leads. If prophecy frightens you into returning to bondage, you are responding to Biblical events in exactly the wrong direction. World events should not drive you backward. They should drive you upward.

  • Toward prayer.
  • Toward Scripture.
  • Toward obedience.
  • Toward Jesus.
  • Toward readiness.
  • Toward holiness.
  • Toward deeper trust.

You do not need your old substance because the world feels uncertain. 👉Jesus is not uncertain.

JESUS DID NOT SAY, “PANIC WHEN YOU SEE THESE THINGS”

He said the opposite. “See that you are not troubled.” That is remarkable. Jesus knew His followers would see frightening things. Yet He still told them they could remain spiritually steady. Why? Because their peace was never supposed to depend upon world conditions.

Your peace cannot depend upon

  • Washington.
  • Jerusalem.
  • Moscow.
  • The stock market.
  • The economy.
  • The military.
  • The news.
  • Or tomorrow’s headline.

⭐Your peace rests in Yeshua.

  • Governments can shake.
  • Nations can shake.
  • Economies can shake.
  • But the true believer does not shake with them.

DO NOT CONFUSE BIBLICAL WATCHFULNESS WITH FEAR

Jesus commanded believers to watch. That means we should not be spiritually asleep.

  • We should recognize the times.
  • We should understand Scripture.
  • We should pay attention.

But watching does not mean obsessing. You do not need to check the news every fifteen minutes to prove you are watching prophecy. At some point, constant information can stop producing wisdom and start feeding fear. Ask yourself: Is what I’m consuming helping me understand Scripture—or is it making me afraid?

That distinction matters tremendously in recovery. Anything that repeatedly agitates your mind can become an emotional trigger.

  • Stay informed.
  • Stay watchful.
  • But stay anchored.

THE WORLD IS NOT FALLING OUT OF GOD’S HANDS

When events accelerate, it can look as though evil is winning. It isn’t.

Bible prophecy teaches exactly the opposite.

  • History is moving toward a conclusion Yahweh already knows.
  • Jesus is not pacing heaven wondering what happens next.
  • There is no emergency meeting in heaven.
  • There is no headline that surprises Him.
  • There is no ruler He did not see coming.
  • There is no war He did not know about.
  • There is no prophetic event that catches Him unprepared.
  • The Author already knows the ending.

If you belong to Him, you know the Author.

YOUR RECOVERY MUST BE STRONGER THAN THE HEADLINES

Biblical recovery cannot depend upon peaceful circumstances. If your freedom only survives when life is calm, it has not yet developed deep roots. Freedom becomes strong when you learn:

  • Bad news does not control my obedience.
  • Fear does not decide what I do.
  • The world does not determine whether I remain faithful.
  • I will follow Jesus whether the headlines are peaceful or frightening.

That is mature recovery.

PROPHECY SHOULD CHANGE THE WAY YOU LIVE

Biblical prophecy is not merely something to study. It should produce something in us.

  • Greater holiness.
  • Greater urgency.
  • Greater prayer.
  • Greater evangelism.
  • Greater obedience.
  • Greater separation from sin.
  • Greater expectation of Christ.

If watching prophecy only makes you frightened, something is missing. If watching prophecy makes you say, “Jesus told us. I want to be ready. I want to live faithfully. I want others to know Him.” It’s here when prophecy is producing what it should.

GOAL FOR TODAY

The next time a frightening world event captures your attention, stop before allowing your imagination to run ahead.

Say:

  1. “Jesus told me these things would happen. This does not surprise Him, so it does not have to control me.”
  2. Then pray before you continue reading or watching.
  3. Let prophecy produce faith before fear gets an opportunity to produce bondage.

QUESTIONS FOR SELF-REFLECTION

  1. Do frightening world events strengthen my faith in prophecy or weaken my trust in Jesus?
  2. Have I been consuming so much news that I am feeding fear instead of faith?
  3. When I hear about wars, disasters, or instability, do I remember that Jesus foretold these things?
  4. Has fear about the future ever tempted me toward an old addictive escape?
  5. Am I using prophecy to become more faithful and prepared—or simply more frightened?
  6. If Jesus already knows what is coming, what am I still trying desperately to control?

VERSES FOR MEDITATION

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”— Matthew 24:6 NKJV

“And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.” — John 14:29 NKJV

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”— Luke 21:28 NKJV

PRAYER

Abba Father,

Thank You that nothing happening in this world is hidden from You. When I see wars, violence, instability, disasters, lawlessness, and frightening events, remind me that Jesus told us beforehand that difficult days would come. Help me stop interpreting prophecy through fear and begin seeing it through faith. You knew. Jesus warned us. Your Word prepared us. So I refuse to allow the events of this world to drive me back into anything You have already delivered me from. When fear tells me to escape, teach me to run to You. When headlines overwhelm me, turn my attention back to Your Word. When the future feels uncertain, remind me that it is only uncertain to me. It has never been uncertain to You. Make me watchful without becoming fearful. Make me informed without becoming consumed. Make me ready without becoming anxious. And let every fulfilled prophecy deepen my confidence that Jesus is exactly who He said He is. I will not fear what You already knew was coming. I will trust You through it. Keep me faithful, holy, awake, and ready for the return of Yeshua.

In Jesus’ holy and Almighty name, amen.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DID JESUS ACTUALLY PREDICT WARS AND WORLD TURMOIL?

Yes. In Matthew 24 and Luke 21, Jesus specifically spoke about wars, rumors of wars, nations rising against nations, earthquakes, famines, persecution, deception, and other events. He wanted His followers prepared rather than surprised.

SHOULDN’T PROPHECY MAKE CHRISTIANS AFRAID?

It should do the opposite. Jesus said He told His followers things beforehand so that when they happened, they would believe. Prophecy demonstrates His foreknowledge and the reliability of His Word.

WHAT DID JESUS MEAN BY “SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT TROUBLED”?

Jesus acknowledged that His followers would hear frightening news, but He commanded them not to allow that news to dominate their hearts. He did not promise an absence of trouble. He promised that His followers could remain anchored through it.

HOW CAN WORLD EVENTS AFFECT SOMEONE IN RECOVERY?

Fear and uncertainty can trigger old patterns of escape. Someone who once used substances or compulsive behaviors to numb difficult emotions may feel tempted when world events become frightening. Biblical recovery teaches us to bring fear to Jesus instead of returning to bondage.

IS IT WRONG TO FOLLOW PROPHECY NEWS?

No. But there is a difference between watching and obsessing. Prophecy should lead you toward Scripture, prayer, readiness, holiness, and trust—not constant fear.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN WORLD EVENTS BEGIN FRIGHTENING ME?

Remember three things: Jesus told us. Jesus is still in control. Jesus told us not to be troubled. Then step away from the headlines long enough to return your attention to Scripture and prayer. The safest place for your mind is not tomorrow’s news. It is today’s truth.
