“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14 NKJV)
You may have been deeply wronged. You may have been lied to, betrayed, abandoned, humiliated, or wounded by someone who never apologized.
Just know that their sin does not give you permission to live in yours. Unforgiveness is still disobedience ~ even when your pain is justified. That is the part we do not like to hear.
We want Yahweh to deal severely with the person who hurt us while extending endless mercy toward the bitterness growing inside our own heart. Jesus does not give us that option. You cannot keep drinking resentment and call it healing. You cannot repeatedly rehearse the offense and call it wisdom. You cannot demand mercy from God while refusing to extend forgiveness to someone else.
“But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:15 NKJV)
Forgiveness does not erase consequences. It does not require reconciliation with someone who remains dangerous or unrepentant. It does not mean pretending the evil never happened. It means you stop appointing yourself judge, jury, and executioner.
- Give the case to Yahweh.
- Give Him the offender.
- Give Him the injustice.
- Give Him the outcome.
- And then get your heart out of the courtroom.
You cannot heal while continually prosecuting yesterday.
- Forgive.
- Release.
- Walk away clean.
Do not allow someone else’s sin against you to become the reason you begin sinning against Yahweh.
Abba Father, expose every place where I have justified bitterness because of what someone did to me. I surrender my right to revenge, repayment, and resentment. I place every offender into Your hands and trust You to judge righteously. Clean my heart and teach me to forgive in obedience to Yeshua. In Jesus’ holy and Almighty name, amen.
