You prayed for it. You wanted it. Maybe you were even convinced God was going to give it to you. Then He didn’t. That can hurt. But disappointment does not mean Yahweh has disappointed you.
“Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
(Psalm 37:4 NKJV)
This verse does not mean, **“Want anything strongly enough and God will give it to you.” **Notice what comes first: “Delight yourself in the LORD.”
When Yahweh becomes the desire of your heart, something begins to change inside you. Your desires start coming under **His authority. **Some things you desperately wanted may not have been good for you. Some doors you begged Him to open may have led somewhere you could not see. Some relationships you thought you needed may have pulled you away from Him. Sometimes the answer isn’t **no. **It’s simply not now.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
(Psalm 84:11 NKJV)
That means you don’t have to chase, manipulate, panic, or return to an old escape when something you wanted doesn’t happen. You can trust the One who sees what you cannot.
Recovery requires learning that disappointment does not have permission to send you backward. You don’t need every desire fulfilled. You need Yahweh more than you need your own way.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Think about something you desperately want right now. Then pray:
“Abba, if this desire is from You, establish it. If it isn’t, change my heart until I want what You want.”
That’s surrender. Surrender brings freedom.
PRAYER
Abba Father, I surrender my desires to You. Keep me from believing that unanswered prayers mean You do not love me. If something I want would pull me away from Your best for me, give me the strength to release it. Change my desires until they agree with Yours, and teach me to trust You when Your answer is yes, no, or wait. I want You more than I want my own way. In Jesus’ holy and Almighty name, amen.
