Why is it so easy to believe addiction can control you for life, but so hard to believe Yeshua can free you for life? Maybe you have heard it so many times that you have accepted it as truth:
- “You will always be an addict.”
- “You will always be in recovery.”
- “You will always be one bad day away from going back.”
But is that what Scripture teaches?
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
(John 8:36 NKJV)
Yeshua did NOT say,
“You will be partially free.”
OR
“You will remain spiritually chained but learn how to manage the chains.”
He said “FREE INDEED.”
That does not mean temptation will never come. It does not mean you stop being watchful, prayerful, or accountable. Freedom does not make you careless. But there is a tremendous difference between being tempted by something and being enslaved to it.
“For sin shall not have dominion over you…”
(Romans 6:14 NKJV)
Maybe the real question is not whether Yahweh is powerful enough to bring lasting freedom. Maybe the question is whether you have been taught to expect bondage. If you continually tell yourself, “I will always be this way,” eventually you may begin living as though change is impossible.
But Scripture tells believers something very different:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
Your past may explain where you have been. It does not have the authority to decide where you are going.
THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY
What would change if you stopped expecting relapse and started expecting transformation? What if instead of saying, “I will always struggle with this,” you began saying:
“Yeshua has made me free, and I intend to walk in that freedom.”
Do not build your future around the assumption that your past will eventually defeat you. Build it around the truth that Yahweh is able to transform your mind, your desires, your habits, and your life.
Freedom is not permission to become careless. Freedom is the power to stop living like bondage still owns you.
Abba Father, expose every lie I have believed about my future. If I have been taught to expect lifelong bondage, replace that expectation with the truth of Your Word. Teach me to walk faithfully, humbly, and watchfully in the freedom Yeshua has given me. Renew my mind, strengthen my obedience, and help me stop identifying myself by what once controlled me. I choose to believe Your truth over my past. In Jesus’ holy and Almighty name, amen.
