THOSE TIMES WHEN YOU FEEL ABANDONED BY GOD

Have you ever cried out to Yahweh and felt as though heaven had gone silent? You pray, you wait, you search for answers, and nothing seems to change. You begin to wonder, Where is God? Has He forgotten me? Does He even hear me anymore? Feeling abandoned by God does not mean you have been abandoned by Him.

WHY THIS MATTERS IN RECOVERY

During recovery, there will be difficult days when prayers seem unanswered, struggles continue, and God’s presence feels distant. These are the moments when you must decide whether to trust your feelings or stand on His Word. Faith isn’t believing because everything is going well. Faith is continuing to trust Yahweh when nothing seems to make sense.

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV)

WHEN GOD SEEMS SILENT

Even David, a man after God’s own heart, cried out:

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, And from the words of my groaning?”

Psalm 22:1 (NKJV)

David experienced anguish, loneliness, and fear. Yet he continued turning toward Yahweh rather than walking away. Sometimes God is working in ways you cannot see. Sometimes the answer is not yet. Sometimes He is teaching you to trust Him without immediate reassurance. His silence is not proof of His absence. Don’t allow a difficult season to convince you that Yahweh has forgotten you. Keep praying. Keep obeying. Keep seeking Him. Your circumstances may change from day to day, but His character does not.

RECOVERY-FOCUSED SELF-EXAMINATION

  1. When Yeshua (Jesus;) seems silent, do I turn toward Him or begin looking for comfort in my former addictions?
  2. Am I allowing feelings of loneliness, disappointment, or rejection to become excuses for returning to old behaviors?
  3. Have I mistaken unanswered prayers for abandonment rather than continuing to trust Yahweh’s timing?
  4. Am I seeking Yahweh because I love Him, or only when I need Him to change my circumstances?
  5. Have I allowed discouragement to weaken my commitment to repentance, obedience, and lasting freedom?
  6. When difficult emotions arise, do I turn to Scripture and prayer, or do I entertain thoughts that could lead me back into bondage?
  7. What one action can I take today to demonstrate that my faith in Yahweh is stronger than my feelings?

SCRIPTURES TO MEDITATE ON

“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)

“Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!”

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)

PRAYER

Abba Father,

There are times when I feel alone and wonder why You seem so far away. Forgive me when I allow my circumstances and emotions to overshadow Your promises. Strengthen my faith when I cannot see what You are doing. Teach me to trust Your heart even when I cannot understand Your ways. Help me remain faithful, obedient, and patient as I wait upon You. Thank You for hearing my prayers, even when I cannot see the answers.

I ask this in Jesus’ holy Almighty name. Amen.

GOAL FOR TODAY

When you feel abandoned by Yahweh, refuse to let your feelings become your truth.

Read Hebrews 13:5 aloud three times today. Spend five quiet minutes talking to Yahweh without demanding an immediate answer. Then thank Him for His faithfulness and take one step forward in obedience.

REMEMBER: God’s presence is not measured by how strongly you feel Him, but by the faithfulness of His promises.
