DOES A WALK WITH YESHUA COME NATURALLY WHEN YOU’RE SAVED?

You have surrendered your life to Yeshua. Why, then, do old thoughts, familiar temptations, and wrong desires still compete for your attention? Does struggling mean nothing has changed?

Salvation brings new life. Learning to walk in that life requires daily surrender, obedience, and dependence on Him.

WHY THIS MATTERS IN RECOVERY

You may expect every old desire to disappear immediately when you come to Jesus. When temptation returns, you may question your salvation or assume freedom is impossible. Temptation itself is not proof that you are unchanged. What matters is how you respond—and whether you let Yeshua lead you.

“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:16, NKJV

Being born again does not mean every habit, reaction, or thought instantly becomes godly. The Holy Spirit dwells in you, helping you recognize sin and giving you strength to obey. You still need to respond to His correction.

Notice that Scripture tells you to walk in the Spirit. Walking involves taking steps. You open your Bible, tell the truth, leave a tempting situation, seek godly support, and obey what God has already shown you. As you practice obedience, new habits grow. You learn to recognize His guidance and bring your desires under His authority.

“Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’”

Luke 9:23, NKJV

Yeshua said daily. Yesterday’s surrender does not replace today’s obedience. You cannot earn salvation through effort, yet following your Savior calls for an active response to His grace.

In recovery, this means refusing to nourish what once held you captive. Stop keeping an opening for the behavior you have asked Him to help you leave. When you stumble, confess it and turn back promptly. Receive correction and take the next faithful step.

You do not have to wait until obedience feels natural to obey. Follow Yeshua today, trusting Him to keep changing your heart as you walk with Him.

GOAL FOR TODAY: Identify one area where you have been waiting to feel like obeying. Ask Yeshua for help, then take one practical step of obedience today.

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank You for giving me new life through Yeshua. Help me stop expecting spiritual growth without daily surrender. Teach me to recognize Your correction, resist temptation, and obey even when my feelings pull another way. Keep my heart willing and my steps faithful as I follow You, in Jesus’ holy Almighty name, amen.

RECOVERY-FOCUSED SELF-EXAMINATION

  1. Have I expected every old desire to disappear without changing what I feed my mind and heart?
  2. When temptation comes, do I turn to Yeshua or begin making excuses to give in?
  3. What has God already shown me that I am still resisting?
  4. Am I making time for Scripture and prayer, or relying on yesterday’s spiritual strength?
  5. Which relationships, routines, or influences keep drawing me toward old behavior?
  6. When I sin, do I confess and turn back promptly, or hide and continue?
  7. What specific choice can I make today to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading rather than my feelings?
